Euskelec. Bilbao as the venue for the final event

The Rookies Miralbueno team represented Aragon very well in the competition rounds of the final Euskelec event on May 29th.

The final competition of the fourth edition of Euskelec was held on Saturday 29 May in the privileged setting of the Bilbao estuary, with the Grúa Carola as a witness to the event. This year, for the first time, participation was open to other communities outside the Basque Country. Four vocational training centres from Cantabria and one vocational training centre from Aragon formed part of a grid which, together with the local vocational training centres, made up a total of 19 teams (see list below):

The welcome given by the organisers (Tknika and Alterity), the Regional Ministry of Education and the Vice-Ministry of Vocational Training of the Basque Country to the teams from Aragón and Cantabria has been very warm at all times.

The organisation of the day can only be described as excellent, allowing all the participants to enjoy a day in which everything ran like clockwork. The day's programme began at 7:00 am with the vehicle checks, ensuring at all times that the vehicles complied with safety, technical and sporting requirements.

The competition consisted of four races: 1st - Braking test, 2nd - Acceleration test, 3rd - Slalom and 4th - Endurance (1h race).

The performance of the team representing Aragon, from IES Miralbueno, can be described as very solvent for the first time they were participating in a competition with an already consolidated trajectory. It is worth highlighting the precision and coolness of the driver Alejandro Martín (a student of the Intermediate Degree Course in Bodywork) who knew how to deal with the incidents without getting his heart rate up. The performance of the team of students from IES Miralbueno in solving the technical problems that arose and, in particular, the welding work, against the clock, of the two front wheels that ended up breaking in the qualifying session prior to the 1 hour endurance race.

The highlight came after the lunch break: the 1h endurance race. It is not only about going fast, but also about conserving the battery until the end. The Aragonese team managed to qualify to start in 12th position on the grid. In the first 15 minutes of the race, Alejandro Martín managed to place the car in 6th position although, due to stop&go penalties in the pitlane, he finished in a creditable 9th position, reaching the finish line with 0% battery reserve.

The victory went to the Cantabrian team of IES Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, who with a fast and reliable car got the pole position in the classification and kept the first place until the end of the race. From CIFPA we would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to the winning team.
