30 Oct Active methodologies are increasingly present in VET
More and more Vocational Training schools in Aragon are working on some aspect of what is known as learning based on active methodologies (CBR, CBP, Service Learning...). This new educational approach places the students in the centre, making them active agents directly involved in their technical learning, but also in the development of their personal and social skills. On the other hand, teachers change, to a great extent, their traditional role as mere transmitters of knowledge to exercise the role of guide and companion.
At the Innovation Centre for Vocational Training in Aragon (CIFPA), training actions are already underway, linked to the initiative of the Directorate General for Innovation and Vocational Training, which, through the Digital Campus A.0, wants to contribute to the expansion of these methodologies throughout the territory. The objective is to favour the transformation of the teaching model in the Vocational Training cycles by introducing this methodology based on real challenges and with the possible participation of companies and other institutions, which will contribute to the development of the necessary competences for the work of the future.
One of these training actions or course that is currently being taught online is called "Qualification of teachers in active methodologies. Level 1". It is a training action developed "among equals" since it is given by teachers who have already implemented and work with this methodology in their classrooms. They now have the opportunity to share their experience, with its positive and negative points, with other teachers interested in starting. The aim is to teach them, provide them with tools and materials and generate a collaborative network that creates synergies and encourages the implementation of these teaching methodologies more in line with the current reality.
The videos that make up this course have been recorded in CIFPA's iNTiVi Space. The coordinator of the course, Carlos Sernis, has favoured a relaxed conversation with teachers of different specialities of Professional Training who work in centres spread throughout the three Aragonese provinces and who have experience in working for challenges or in Service Learning.
In this formative action that is being developed:
- Teamwork is especially emphasized as a basic pillar of these methodologies.
- Doubts are resolved and experiences are shared.
- Reasons given for methodological change
- We are talking about transversal skills and the need to prepare students for the new labour market and the challenges they will have to overcome as adults.
- Tools are provided for the evaluation and qualification phase.
- And the importance of the process versus the final result is stressed. The important thing, they insist, is to evaluate and analyze the whole process that the students are doing.
